The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has suspended three members of its National Youth Executive Committee (NYEC) for 60 days. The three are treasurer Thato Baruti, secretary Gosego Matlala and political officer Sethu Maano.

Yesterday, the suspended members told Mmegi that they heard rumours to that effect, but they have not yet been served with the letters. BDP secretary general Mpho Balopi refused to discuss the matter and referred enquiries to the executive secretary Sechele Sechele, who was not available for comment.

Yesterday’s drastic decision comes just two weeks after some NYEC members toppled their chair, Andile Boatile accusing him of having been party to a unilateral decision by the central committee to postpone the youth elective congress.  The meeting, held at Tsholetsa House without the chair and four of the 18 member committee, replaced Boatile with Riggert Moroka.  But the party central committee did not approve the decision.
