Botswana Defence Force XI was formed in 1978, a year after the formation of the Botswana Defence Force in 1977. The team was made up of Botswana Police Mobile Unit (PMU) players and this process commenced in 1977 and concluded in 1978.

 

The stalwarts behind the club’s formation were amongst others, the Retired Senior Army Officers in the likes of Major General B K Oitsile, Colonel F. Katse and Lt Colonel F. Webb and many others.
