Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) president, Dirang Thipe has been voted into the Africa Boxing board. The elections were held over the weekend during the inagural Africa Boxing Congress in Nigeria.

The congress was convened under the continental World Boxing body. He explained that World Boxing is recognised by International Olympic Committee. The IOC granted World Boxing provisional recognition in February 2025 as the new governing body for the sport, a crucial step for boxing's future inclusion in the Olympic Games, especially LA28, after the International Boxing Association (IBA) lost its status. The recognition followed World Boxing's commitment to good governance, ethical standards, and financial transparency, ensuring boxing remains an Olympic sport by meeting IOC criteria for integrity and wide representation. Thipe said Botswana is now part of history as one of the founding countries of Africa Boxing board. He will serve in the Africa Boxing body until 2029.
