Tebogo receives Presidential Order of Meritorious Service award

Sprint sensation, Letsile Tebogo will today receive the Presidential Order of Meritorious Service award. 

At 20 years, Tebogo becomes the youngest person to ever receive the award.

The Presidential Order of Meritorious Service is an honour awarded to any person for actions or services benefiting Botswana or any Community or Organisation therein in any particular field or sphere and for acts of courage or devotion to duty.

He receives the award after making history at the World Athletics Championships that were held in Budapest, Hungary.


He brought home silver medal from the men's 100m where he set a new national record clocking 9.88s. He became the first athlete from Africa to win the 100m medal at the World Athletics Championships in 100m of any colour since the inauguration of the competition in 1983. He also won a bronze medal in the men's 200m, after finishing in the third position with a time of 19.81s
