The nation was left heartbroken after 200m Olympic champion, Letsile Tebogo announced that he was dealing with a recurring injury during the Rabat Diamond League.

Another heartbreak followed when Bayapo Ndori collapsed to the ground clutching his hamstring during the 400m race at the same event. The athletes’ coach, Kebonyemodisa Dose Mosimanyane told MmegiSport this week that the two are focused on recovery so that they return to training. Mosimanyane said all injuries, whether minor or major, are part the journey and build resilience. “They are part of what we do, so we manage them as we go along. We should be able to line-up at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September,” he said. Mosimanyane said they have a target of races that they believe they will need to reach race sharpness and peak performance by September.

When asked about reducing the number of competitions to avoid straining the athletes ahead of World Athletics Championships, Mosimanyane said they have factored that into their programme. “We will make adjustments if need be, with the help and advice of our medical team of course. Every race serves a purpose towards getting to the desired fitness levels needed to compete at the World Athletics Championships,” Mosimanyane said.
