Tebogo has a lot of work to do to reclaim bragging rights after suffering two defeats this month. All eyes will be on him and Noah Lyles, with a belief that the outcome might be a repeat of the 2024 edition, which saw the American emerge victorious whilst South African Akani Simbine secured second position and Tebogo finished third. Tebogo will be fired up following the Monaco showdown where he finished in second position behind Lyles in the 200m race. He suffered another defeat in the 100m at the Brescia World Athletics Continental Tour, finishing by 0.01 seconds behind Jerome Blake of Canada. However, it will not be an easy day in the office as Lyles has claimed 100m in the past two editions of the London meet. For the third year in a row, the two fastest men will clash, just 0.03 separated them when they clashed over 200m in London two years ago, Lyles winning in 19.47.
In 2023, Lyles once again won recording 9.81 whilst Tebogo stopped the clock at 9.88. At the Rabat Diamond League, Tebogo finished last with a time of 10.43, but tomorrow it is a different ball game because the Olympic champion has dealt with his nagging injury. Simbine has not lost a race this season, which makes him a threat as he returns to the Diamond League action. The line-up includes World indoor champion, Jeremiah Azu, world 100m bronze medallist Zharnel Hughes, and Jamaican duo, Oblique Seville and Ackeem Blake. Kenyan sprinter, Ferdinand Omanyala told MmegiSport he expects a thrilling 100m race but felt that the outcome will be similar to the 2024 London Diamond League results, adding that he does not expect any surprises. Meanwhile, Tebogo will be motivated as he goes into the London Diamond League with his training partner, Bayapo Ndori, who returns to the tour.
