The Botswana senior karate national team coach, Sensei Peter Molefhe, is now a certified coach for both kata and kumite after passing his Continental Coaching Licence examinations.

Molefhe is currently in Abuja, Nigeria with Team Botswana ahead of the 2025 Africa karate championships which start today. He was also leading the national team that finished in second position at the AUSC UFAK Region 5 South in Durban, South Africa. Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) president, Mpho Bakwadi, explained that there are coaches who had the same qualifications, but unfortunately they expired after two years because of change in rules. “While we had other coaches who achieved this continental qualification before, most allowed their licences to lapse as rules evolved and renewals were required every about four years," Bakwadi told Mmegi Online.

“Molefhe’s newly attained certification not only restores this level of expertise to the national team but ensures Botswana is aligned with the latest UFAK and WKF standards for kata and kumite coaching." He revealed that BOKA was pushing for sustainable growth through ongoing compliance, adding that Molefhe’s achievement highlights the importance of staying current with international coaching requirements. “If you are not current, your athletes can lose on technicalities, so by maintaining his licence and adapting to rule changes, he sets a new benchmark for long-term coaching development in Botswana, ensuring future athletes consistently benefit from world‑class training and preparation," Bakwadi said.
