The heavy rainfall that started on Friday afternoon onto Saturday in the Southern region spoiled what was to be an action packed sporting weekend.

With the Botswana Premier League (BPL) now on its final stretch, the focus on Saturday was on the relegation battle. However, three encounters were postponed with the other two due to the fact that the venues were waterlogged. The VTM Arena pitch was deemed waterlogged and could not host a clash between Masitoka and Notwane.

Reigning champions, Jwaneng Galaxy and Prisons XI clash was called off as the pitch was unplayable. In a rather embarrassing manner, the match between Gilport Lions and Morupule Wanderers, which was to be held at the National Stadium at 3.30pm was postponed because of an alleged administrative blunder. According to information reaching Sport Monitor, the league authorities did not book the venue and instead the Botswana Athletics Association had got the ‘lease' for the afternoon.
