The National Stadium, closed last month for renovations, will be available for the FNB Premiership opener between Mochudi Centre Chiefs and BDF XI on Friday.

The venue has been closed to allow for upgrades, particularly on the track in preparation for next year's World Relays, which Botswana hosts. The stadium was due to open to the public in September, but Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) communications manager, Anderson Nlisana, said the venue is now partly available. "We are done with field maintenance and the stadium is ready for use. The track and other buildings are still under maintenance and not open for use," Nlisana said.

He said there should be no concerns around the use of the venue whilst some parts are still undergoing renovations. "No (there will be no risk). Remember, the track is just being maintained so not all of it is being attended to. The risk is low," Nlisana said. The FNB Premiership season kicks off this weekend with the Botswana Football League decrying venue shortages.
