MMOPANE: The national motocross championship could return in the 2024 Botswana Motor Sport (BMS) season. This year the motocross discipline could not host a national championship due to various reasons including lack of sponsorship and the withdrawal of competitors.

As per the norm, the BMS hosts the national championship through its member affiliated clubs who take turns in hosting the championship rounds. Over the weekend, the Bontleng Motoride Club (BMC) hosted a Renaissance Motocross Fun-Day at the Mmopane Race Track.

The event was to rally support for the discipline in an effort to ready for the 2024 season. The event had just over 25 entries as riders showed the hunger for the sport on the race track. It was the first motocross event of the year. Speaking to Sport Monitor, BMC’s public relations officer, Kagiso Stephens said the number of entries shows growth and enthusiasm for the sport.
