The Mares are amongst the biggest movers in the latest FIFA women's football rankings released today. The team has moved seven places to number 146 from 153 in the world.

In Africa, the Mares are now ranked number 28. Botswana’s women’s football team played three matches in July, all at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco. The team played three group stage matches, winning one and losing two. They begun their WAFCON campaign with a 1-0 loss to eventual champions, Nigeria. In the second game, the Mares lost 1-0 to Algeria before a spirited 2-1 win over Tunisia. The team scored twice and conceded three times. Despite a seven place leap, the Mares are still short of their highest world ranking of 102. The Mares are on a rest after the WAFCON finals and will return to action at the COSAFA Women's Championship scheduled for later this year. African champions, Nigeria remain top of the continental rankings and are 36th in the world. South Africa are second in the continent and 54th in the world whilst Morocco completes Africa's top three as they sit 64th in the world rankings.
