In a development that gives a stronger voice to players in the governance of football, FIFA and global players' representative, FIFPRO have signed a landmark agreement that runs until 2031. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on the eve of the 2026 World Cup, gives players a formal role in shaping key decisions affecting professional football worldwide.

Under the deal, FIFPRO is recognised as the global representative body for professional footballers.

The Footballers Union of Botswana, headed by its president, Onalethata Tshekiso, is the FIFPRO local affiliate.
