The journey that began with over 100 teams and contested by around 3, 000 players in 15 regions stretching to all corners of the country, will reach a climax this weekend.

The DTCB Women's Championship winner will be crowned on Saturday with a spot at the CAF Women's Champions League COSAFA qualifiers, the added incentive. The 2025 edition is seen as a transformational campaign as it will be the last to feature regional leagues with a First Division League, divided into two regions, will be played next season. This year's top four finals will feature two new entrants in Orapa United and Nico United. The reigning champions, Gaborone United (GU) and last year's fourth placed team, Makgabz City completes the final four. Red Roses, as GU is affectionately called, will look to make it a third consecutive triumph. The team has arsenal in all departments as coach, William 'Raizor' Monene admitted his side just need to stick to the tactical plans to retain their title. GU has been impressive in the regional campaign. The team clinched the regional league with a handful games to play.

The Red Roses cruised to the national finals, winning the South Block playoffs with ease. In the block playoffs, the team conceded just once, while hitting the back of the net on 10 occasions in their three games. Their semifinal opponents, Makgabza City are hoping for a better showing from the previous season's fourth place finish. They became the first team to represent the Western Block and received a rude welcoming at the hands of GU. The two teams met in the semifinals of the 2024 edition as Makgabz City lost 24-0 to the eventual champions and went on to lose 8-0 in the bronze medal playoff. The team became the highest conceding team in the national playoffs after letting in 32 goals. The Tsabongb-based side played the fewest games between the regional league and the block playoffs. They played to a draw against EL-Pots, beat Gantsi Swallows 4-1 to book a place in the final. Nico United have the shortest break going into the national finals as the East Block playoffs concluded last weekend. The team made its debut this season and sailed all the way to the national finals.

Botswana for the longest time was known for her virulent peace with family being an enviable institution. As the media, we are also scared to be incessantly reporting on these bloody scenes where women are brutally murdered and worse, sometimes in front of their children and loved ones. Yes, we have reported cases where men were also brutally murdered by their loved ones, but such cases are a drop in the ocean. For the past two weeks, Botswana was...
