Debswana Mining Company made history yesterday when they invested P15 million into sport, with P9 million going to athletics, a first for the sport. The Re Ba Bona Ha sport development programme will receive the remaining P6 million.

Speaking during the cheque handover ceremony yesterday, Debswana managing director, Lynette Armstrong said the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) sponsorship is spread over three years up to 2024.

She said BAA would receive P3 million annually. The Re Ba Bona Ha sponsorship is also for three years and Armstrong said the programme will receive P2 million annually. She emphasised that they expect returns from every investment they make. “We have seen the emergence of top athletes who have gone to represent the country in elite competitions globally.
