In just six years, Ross Branch has risen from being a Dakar Rally rookie to a smashing podium finisher. Along the way, he shattered a number of records and was at one point unlucky when he missed clinching his first Dakar title by just 10 minutes. While he has endured a rough ride in his Dakar career, Branch has also been inching closer to a first motorsport World Championship title, writes, MmegiSport Correspondent, KABELO BORANABI

Early struggles

The Jwaneng-raised star enjoyed a good debut at the Dakar Rally in 2019, finishing as the Best Rookie and in 13th place in the overall rankings. Branch’s maiden participation at this high-level race proved difficult right from the beginning, as the then amateur biker and his commercial pilot had to raise over P500, 000 to realise his dream.
