Botswana's bid for 2026 World Relays gathers pace

A delegation from World Athletics will arrive in Botswana to access the country's readiness to host the 2026 World Relays

Botswana is bidding to host the global athletics competition for the first time, with Friday being the deadline for the bid submission. In a statement, the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) said the bid process is meant to coincide with the country celebrating its 60th independence anniversary next year. "As part of the celebrations, Botswana Athletics Association is bidding to host the World Athletics Relays for 2026, the bid submission date is February 21, 2025," reads the statement. "As part of the bidding process, a delegation from World Athletics Bid Committee is scheduled to visit Botswana on February 21 to 23, 2025," BAA added.

The World Relays is an international biennial track and field sporting event held by World Athletics where teams from around the world compete in relay races.
