Botswana awarded right to host 2026 World Relays

Botswana will become the first African country to host the World Relays after governing body World Athletics confirmed the decision today.

World Athletics president, Sebastian Coe made the announcement during a press briefing after a council meeting Tuesday. "We have also just wrapped up two days of council meetings where a number of important decisions have been made, including the confirmation of a number of host cities for our events in the next few years. Gaborone in Botswana is the host of our 2026 World Relays, the first time they will host a world athletics series event," Coe said. "The selection of the host cities reaffirms our commitment to hosting events in Africa , and of course our smaller nations," he added.
