The Botswana Football Association (BFA) and its technical sponsor, Umbro have reduced the price of Zebras replica jerseys after pressure from the public.
BFA's official sales partner, Studio88 announced that the jerseys were selling at P799, a price which local fans deemed too steep.
Township Rollers' replica is the most expensive locally, priced at P350.
The BFA through its public relations officer, Tumo Mpatane confirmed that the replica price has been dropped by 17.5%, which is P140 to make it more affordable for the local fans.
The replica will now be selling at P659, and still remains the most expensive local soccer jersey.
"We felt the price had to be reduced to help football followers and Batswana (to) afford the jersey. Obviously Umbro as an international brand, use international prices but Botswana is a different market and they also understand this, hence the reduced price.
The jersey is doing well, we strongly believe it will be much better with the lowered price," Mpatane said. He, however, said he did not have the number of shirts sold thus far.
