Zebras continued their slow gallop up the FIFA/Coca-Cola rankings after going one spot up in the latest rankings released by the world soccer governing body yesterday.

Botswana gained 301 points from the three matches they played between the previous rankings in July and yesterday to move from position 113 to 112.  They also moved up one place in CAF from the previous ranking of 31st to 30th. Botswana is noted in the rankings as having played most games in the period under review. The Zebras played friendly matches against Kenya, Zimbabwe and Lesotho. They registered only one victory in these matches, losing one and drawing the other. They gained most of their points (258) from a 1-0 win against neighbours Zimbabwe in a three-nation tournament hosted here last month. They also drew 0-0 with Lesotho, gaining only 43 points from the draw. The third friendly match they played was a 3-1 away loss to Kenya.

A string of mixed results against lowly ranked opposition in the past two-and-a-half years have seen the Zebras dropping from their highest ever ranking of 53rd and 12th in the world and Africa respectively attained in December 2010. The Zebras earlier this year started the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as the lowest ranked team at 94th.
