Zebras face Chipolopolo

The national soccer team, the Zebras, play Zambia tomorrow at Itekeng Stadium in Orapa as part of preparations for the COSAFA Castle Cup and the last match of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations against defending champions, Egypt.

The Orapa match marks the official opening of the Itekeng Stadium. Zebras' coach, Colwyn Rowe has not made any surprise inclusions in the 23-man squad. The only new arrivals are Under-23 players, Noah Maposa (goalkeeper) and defender Gobonyeone 'Shoes Selefa. Maposa has been called to replace Township Rollers' goalkeeper, Barolong Lemmenyane who is said to be attending trials in South Africa. ECCO City Greens' striker and current Premier League player of the season, Malepa Bolelang has made a return to the Zebras after a long absence. Rowe said that the inclusion of Bolelang is very important because he has been doing well at his club. He said the fact that he is the player of the season is proof that he is good and therefore should be called to the team. He added that Khumo Motlhabane who has been out for long due to injury has been included because he has been very committed to the national team. He said that he is impressed with Motlhabane's attitude and the fact that he can play in many positions. He, however, said that the defender will not play against Zambia as he still has to reach full fitness together with striker Thato Siska. But the two are expected to be ready for the COSAFA Castle Cup game against Namibia. The good news for the Zebras is that Rollers' top marksman, Onalethata Tshekiso is back after an injury, which forced him out the Orange Kabelano Charity Cup.

Rowe stated that the COSAFA Cup game against Namibia is very important because it will help in preparations for the do-or-die game against Egypt. He felt that they have to play some friendly games in between the COSAFA Cup and the Egypt match. Joel Mogorosi and Jerome Ramatlhakwana will miss the weekend game as they are in Cyprus but they are expected to take part in the COSAFA Cup match. Jomo Moatlhaping is still injured and is not likely to recover before the COSAFA Cup.
