Zambian wins Open Chess title

Chitumbo Mwali from Zambia is the winner of the Botswana International Open Chess Championships that was held in Gaborone over the Independence Day holidays.

Mwali beat International Master, Providence Oatlhotse with a score of eight points out of a possible nine to pocket P10, 000. FIDE Master Thato Olebile was second with seven points while third position went to Kela Siame Kaulele also from Zambia.

In the women’s section Woman International Master, Onkemetse Francis came first, winning herself P6, 000. Francis won against amongst others, Woman Grand Master Tuduetso Sabure to emerge the winner with a total score of 8.5 points out of nine. Woman International Master Kgalalelo Botlhole got eight points and Boitumelo Radikoro garnered 6.5 points to finish in third position.
