Women’s rugby faces a bleak future as the sport struggles to retain players, a situation exacerbated by prolonged inactivity due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The women’s league has always struggled to attract players even before the out break and impact of the pandemic. National women’s rugby team coach, Tiger Masinki told Sport Monitor that the impact of the long break is going to be devastating to the sport. He also said they tend to lose more women than men in sport in some instances due to maternity.

“I already know three players who are pregnant and they have been active even in the national team. We are not sure if they would come back. It does not mean they are the first or last players to go on maternity.
