At seven years, Naledi Marape is possibly the youngest chess player in the country. Since her debut early this year, she has made lightning progress.

The Baobab Primary School Standard Three pupil is following firmly on the path of Norway’s Magnus Carlsen, who became the world’s youngest Grand Master at 13. Growing up in a chess family, Marape has made quick progress after her debut competition at Mater Spei College this year.

She told Mmegi Sport that her family influenced her love for the sport. Her father, Dr Marape Marape is a former chess player. Her older brother, Marape Junior is a seasoned chess player.
