The battle for top honours in the Mascom Volleyball League has intensified as men and women are slowly separated from boys and girls in the respective leagues.

After last weekend's matches, Mafolofolo lead the women's league followed closely by Kutlwano and Kalavango in second and third places respectively. The three are separated by just two points. Mafolofolo were inactive over the weekend, but still managed to maintain a one-point lead over Kutlwano. Former leaders, Kalavango are now third with 35 points. It is no longer a two-horse race in the women's league as Kalavango has become a force to reckon with. The arrival of former Mafolofolo attacker Lizzy Gasekgonwe has brought spark to the team. Her combination with the likes of Monica Alfred and Gabaresepe Mashaole is expected to propel the Gaborone side to new highs.

Mafolofolo's quest to defend the league title is under serious threat from Kutlwano and Kalavango. The men's league is headed for an interesting time especially between two-army sides BDF VI and Diphatsa who have collected 45 and 43 respectively. Mafolofolo follow closely at 37 points. It looks like BDF and Diphatsa are the only two teams that can stand in each other's way of winning the league. BDF is the only team that has beaten Diphatsa and it remains to be seen if the SSKB side will continue its dominance over the Donga side in the second round. Diphatsa boast seasoned players like Odirile 'Driller' Sibanda, Nlebesi Mpapho and Pastor Rebabonye.
