Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Tebogo Sebego said they decided against bidding for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals due to the prohibitive costs. He has denied his committee was split on the matter.

There appeared to be confusion after the BFA chief executive officer, Keith Masters responded positively to Zimbabwe’s proposal of a joint bid, only for the National Executive Committee (NEC) to deny interest.

In an interview yesterday, Sebego said while there were inquiries from Zimbabwe and South Africa on a joint bid, the costs proved prohibitive. “As BFA, we sat and agreed that our strategy is to bid for regional competitions before we go continental.
