The cream of the English Premiership

After one of the closest and intriguing campaigns in the history of the English Premiership, Staff Writer LETSO MPHO picks his best team. Only players from the top four clubs made the team which is dominated by a group of international stars.

Peter Cech (goalkeeper - Chelsea)
He is the likely number one goalkeeper in the world at the moment. He is the most consistent goalkeeper this season. He is the undisputed best goalkeeper in England in the last three seasons. Despite the severe head injury in 2006, he has been a reliable man between the posts. I like him because he is not a comedian like Jens Lehmann or Fabian Barthez who fluctuated when they signed for English teams. He is usually serious than anyone else can be.

John Terry (centre back - Chelsea)
He is a legend at Chelsea and perhaps at international level. He is a good example of how a captain should behave. After years forming a strong partnership with veterans such as Marcel Desailly at a tender age, Terry has proved to be a good student. He is a no-nonsense and solid defender. There is certainly no complaint as to why he is the highest paid player in England with a 135000 a week cheque. He is the captain on my team.

Rio Ferdinand (centre back - Manchester United)
It is always very surprising when England cannot defend properly with two centre backs of Terry and Ferdinand's calibre. This is one of the best partnerships at the back for England in recent times. Perhaps they are not good together but as individuals they fit the bill. With a 130,000 cheque a week, Ferdinand is the second highest paid player in England and leading earner at Manchester United. It is easy to see why he is earning such wages. He is a vital member of the Manchester United back four, though his goalkeepers must always be alert because he is prone to miskicks and mix-ups. However, he is technically balanced and that makes it easy for him to effectively deal with opponents.
