The circus that is softball league

The newly introduced softball Ipelegeng league is reportedly becoming a flop. There are claims that some clubs have refused to pay league fees with indications that the Botswana Softball Association (BSA) is powerless to take action. BSA spokesman, Pako Maforaga says defaulting clubs would be allowed to play.

But former BSA president Marumo Morule dismisses Maforaga's position. Morule who was part of the group that hatched the Ipelegeng idea told Mmegi Sport that the agreement was that defaulting clubs would be disqualified from the league. Morule was surprised to learn that the agreement has now been changed. "The initial agreement was that only teams that have paid would be allowed to play. People should understand that we are not in a circus here," he warned.

Early this year, BSA launched Ipelegeng league and clubs were tasked with raising funds for the competition after all efforts to solicit sponsors failed. Maforaga said the agreement is that each club pays P1,000. Clubs with two teams pay double. He denied that clubs are refusing to pay. He said there is no club that has indicated to them that they have a problem with paying. He revealed that some clubs took long to pay.
