Teachers hailed for promoting cricket

Teachers in government primary schools in Gaborone and surrounding areas have been applauded for ensuring that children are interested in cricket. Speakers during a Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) event to distribute equipment to government primary schools hailed the teachers for promoting the sport at the grassroots despite the challenges.

Assistant Director of Sports and Recreation, Dickson Gabanakgosi urged teachers to continue encouraging others to join the sport. He said that cricket is a fast growing sport that brings families together. He added that cricket helps to promote team work, team spirit and sportsmanship.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the BCA (officials) for their commitment to the sport. After being colonised by Britain, we were never told how to engage in sports or how to play. We just did it ourselves and we are now growing very fast," he said.
BCA sports development officer, Girish Ramakrishna said that the support that they have received from teachers is amazing.
