Super Eight Premier League competition on cards

A new knockout tournament, Super Eight Cup, is on the cards following revelations that negotiations between commercial bank, BancABC and the Botswana Premier League (BPL) are at an advanced stage, Mmegi Sport can reveal.

BancABC already sponsors a similar tournament in Zimbabwe and hinted before last Sunday's final between Highlanders and Motor Action in Bulawayo that they were close to sealing a deal with the BPL. The new tournament will feature last season's top eight teams.

Mmegi Sport has it on good authority that the tournament is likely to be played before December as the two parties feel playing it after January will rob the sponsors of mileage because of the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
