National softball team coaches have expressed optimism that their charges will do well at the Zone VI tournament in Zambia despite insufficient training.

The coaches told Mmegi Sport that the teams could not train properly because of unforeseen circumstances. The teams left by road yesterday for the tournament scheduled for the weekend. The tournament was postponed early this year after Zambia failed to host it because of financial constraints. Only three countries; Botswana, South Africa and the hosts Zambia will take part in this weekend's event.

The women's coach Portia Mokgotlhe said they only started training together two weeks before they left because the players live in different places. Some had not joined the team just a day before departure because they had not been released by their employers. "I hope we are going to compete and not participate," she said. Mokgotlhe added that they are match fit as the ongoing league has helped them to keep in shape.
