Sitale: Solly is the best

A seemingly excited chess President, Tshepo Sitale on Thursday night forgot history and announced Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) chairman, Solly Reikeletseng and his executive committee as the best thing ever to happen to chess in Botswana.

At a sending off ceremony that lacked glitz and glamour, the chess president hailed the current BNSC board for being the first in history to fund them to get a national team coach for the Olympiad. Short memory. The BNSC has previously funded the Botswana chess Olympiad teams' coaching needs - twice Watu Kobese, the South African chess guru was paid by the BNSC to prepare the team for the Olympiad.

Old man GM, Nikola Krajnick was also brought here to prepare the team in the past, as well as drilling youngsters like Phemelo Khetho, and Ignatius Njobvu. And who would forget GM Ivan and his colleague, who also came here to prepare the chess teams for the Africa Open and the Olympiad during the days of Patrick Wanda as secretary general?
