SA stars dominate table tennis tourney

South African national team star, Terrence Mathole made light work of Botswana's Larona Morapedi in the Gaborone Open Under 18 table tennis final yesterday.

Mathole, who played with so much ease against his subdued opponent, dominated from the onset. Mathole won last year's Selebi Phikwe Open Under 18 and went on to finish as a runner up in the seniors' category. The Under 18 girls final was an all-South Africa affair while the two South Africans - Vivian Jackson and Angie Smith - had made light work of their semi-final opponents to set up an all-SA final. Jackson won the match 3-0.

A similar strength that both the South African national team players displayed was their spin that the Botswana players often failed to deal with. The visitors, however, found it easy to deal with the hosts' ordinary smash, which was, at times, inaccurate. Jackson beat Gaone Kebodiwang 3-0 in a match that did not last too long. Jackson, who took part in 2011 All Africa Games, demonstrated her experience, giving her opponent little room to win a set.
On the other hand, Smith also cruised past Sarina Tapologo 3-1.
