Rollers-PLC feud again

Township Rollers have blamed the Premier League Committee (PLC) for thwarting their plans to play in the annual Macufe Cup in Bloemfontein, South Africa on October 6.

Rollers' managing director Somerset Gobuiwang told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they are disappointed at the way the PLC handled the matter. "We have long told them about this invitation and they promised to come back to us. Now, we are shocked by the latest developments. People are talking about creating relations ahead of 2010 World Cup and we are denied an opportunity which could market our football," he said. Gobuiwang pointed out that they decided to withdraw from Macufe Cup because they could tell the PLC secretariat was not going to allow them to participate. "We are disappointed but there is nothing we can do. This was a chance for us to make money," he said.

Information reaching Mmegi Sport indicate that PLC prevented Rollers from taking part in the tournament because the league season has just started. "Honestly, their (Rollers) relationship with PLC has soured since the Orange case and it was clear that they will not let them go," said a source. However, PLC secretariat has dismissed claims that it has prevented Rollers from participating in the tournament. PLC secretary Setete Phuthego told Mmegi Sport it is Rollers which made the decision to withdraw from the tournament.
