Rollers not pressing panic buttons yet

Defending champions, Township Rollers have made an uncharacteristic slow start, but club spokesperson Kaizer Sekaba is confident the team will soon reclaim its position at the top.

Rollers have not registered a win in three outings since the league started.  In their opening game, the defending champions were ambushed by rivals Mochudi Centre Chiefs, losing 5-2 and then registered two goalless draws against ECCO City Greens and Extension Gunners. This means that Rollers have only acquired two points from a possible nine.

Doubts were raised about Rollers' readiness to defend the title when Chiefs walloped them 5-2.  However, Sekaba said there is no need to press panic buttons.  Sekaba said they have established what went wrong in their opening games.   He said they started their preparations for the season late.  Sekaba said some members of the technical bench were not around when the team started preparations.   The official said the team's coach, Wesley Mondo was attending a course in Zambia while physical trainer, Professor Ignatius Onyewadume and assistant coach Thabo Motang had accompanied the Zebras to South Africa.   Sekaba said they did not even manage to conduct trials because all the coaches were not there.   "Our training started late.  We started on the same week when the league was to commence," he said, adding that other teams prepared adequately during the pre-season.
