Reikeletseng was responding to a question from the media on whether Francistown was ready to host this year's Botswana Games.There was concern that the previous games held in Gaborone faced challenges amongst them transport and accommodation and that Francistown could face even more serious problems. However, the BNSC chairperson said they want to accelerate sports development. He said if they do not host the event at different areas, they would be running the risk of starving those areas. He said they would use boarding schools, teachers training colleges and other institutions in and around Franistown for accommodation.
He said some of these facilities are within 20 and 40 kilometres radius of the city. He mentioned international sporting events like the Olympics as some of the events where athletes and officials could stay about 100 kilometres away from the venue of the games. The games will be held from December 8 to 15 for the first time outside Gaborone. They started in 2009 and are held every two years. He said 13 codes have confirmed that they will take part at this year's event. The codes are athletics, athletics for disabled people, basketball, boxing, badminton, chess, tennis, karate, football, netball, swimming, softball and volleyball.
