Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng, has appealed to the Ministry of Education and Skills Development to continue engaging teachers to find a solution to the impasse that threatens sports development in schools.

Teachers have refused to participate in extracurricular activities, demanding separate remuneration. Reikeletseng said teachers are critical stakeholders in sports and if the matter was not sorted out it could affect Botswana sport. The BNSC chief said differences between teachers and their employer should not be allowed to divide them at the expense of development.

"Differences must make our policies better and stronger," Reikeletseng said. He was speaking at a reception hosted for the All Africa Games (AAG) team in Gaborone on Monday. Reikeletseng said the BNSC was available to help whenever the need arose. However, he thanked the ministry for availing teachers to be part of the team during the AAG. He added that the ministry is a critical partner in sports and that they had proven to the council during the games' preparations that they were up to the task. He applauded the team for excelling in Maputo. The team won 16 medals against a target of 20.
