FRANCISTOWN: Regional football associations across the country have reportedly petitioned the Botswana Football Association (BFA) president Tebogo Sebego over what they call unfulfilled promises.

According to a petition in possession of this publication, regional football associations across the country have called Sebego to explain what is hindering him from fulfilling the promises he made while campaigning and after taking over the reins at the BFA.The regional football associations listed an array of unfulfilled promises and want Sebego to give them answers as to why the situation on the local scene is not changing for the better as promised. Regional football associations claim Sebego promised to turn the local game into a money-spinning business. But to them, there are no signs showing that the local game is heading towards professionalism. "There is no light at the end of the tunnel," part of the petition reads. The regions said they were expecting to receive an increased annual subvention after being promised P50, 000 each per year.

The regions insist that the BFA is still giving them meager grants to run their football associations. This is despite the fact that there are a lot of things that demand money, regions argued.Regions are mandated with a lot of work in growing football in the country with development being one of the mandates that the region is expected to undertake, reads part of the petition.  And there are a lot of money-demanding projects that need to be undertaken at regional level as the regions have been operating without offices for such a long time, the regions said."It is high time we should be found to be professional. We cannot afford to be operating from our houses or the boots of our cars," they wrote in their petition.
