After returning from a two week mission at the chess Olympiad in Turkey recently the Botswana national Sports Council chair, Solly reikeletseng, says he is now convinced chess is sport and not some recreational game.

The BNSC chair was speaking on Tuesday night at the President Hotel at a farewell event organised for a team of Botswana junior chess players leaving for a continental  competition in South Africa.Reikeletseng says his fact finding mission allowed him to interact for three hours with chess icon Gary Kasparov; a researcher,  and a  disabled grand master, whose interpretation of the ideals of chess convinced him.

Reikeletseng says the disabled grand master told him that as a disabled person, he believed sport should provide opportunities for all, including the disabled like him. Reikeletseng says the disabled man told him that it is all thanks to the inclusiveness of chess that he has been able to rise above all odds and attain his grand master status.
