The former president of Botswana Softball Association (BSA) Marumo Morule has been appointed the chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2008 Olympic Games and the Third Commonwealth Youth Games.

When accepting the post last week, Morule said he was aware of the challenges that lay ahead. He appealed for support from all the stakeholders to make sure Botswana succeeds in the two events. Other members of the committee are Refilwe Segokgo (vice chairperson), Dr Martin Mokgwathi (chief de mission), former president of Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) Sesupo Mosweu, vice-president of Botswana Softball Association (BSA), Naledi-Dikgomo-Goulden from Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) president, Gift Nkwe, Neil Feit of Horse Society, Tebogo Ntesang of Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) and Basadi Akoonyatse, a physiotherapist with the Ministry of Health.

The objective of establishing  LOC is to involve critical stakeholders in preparations for the games as much as possible. The Botswana National Olympics Committee (BNOC) says LOC will analyse preparatory programmes of participating codes and the resources and strategies they employ. It will then make recommendations to BNOC. LOC will ensure high standards in the selection of the Botswana team to the games.
