Reigning world 400 metres women champion and 2012 IAAF Samsung Diamond League winner Amantle Montsho maintained her lead in the League despite coming second behind American Sanya Richards-Ross in Stockholm, Sweden, on Friday night.

The track star clocked 50.03 seconds behind Richards-Ross who breasted the tape at 49.89 seconds. Olympic silver medallist, Christine Ohuruogo of Great Britain finished third at 50.77 seconds. Montsho now stands as favourite to retain the diamond race that carries U$ 40, 000 prize money. She now leads the pack with 16 diamond points to Richards-Ross's eight points on second position with only one meet left in Zurich, Switzerland, on August 30.

Montsho has so far won two races, one in Oslo, Norway, in June and another one in Paris last month. In addition, she finished second on three occasions. She finished second in the first race of the league in Shanghai, China, on May 19 before finishing runner_up again behind Richards-Ross in Eugene, United States of America (US) on June 2.  Just before the start of London 2012 Olympics, she came second again, this time finishing behind Ohuruogo in London. With other contestants far behind the local star in the standings, only Richards-Ross is better placed to challenge Montsho for the top.
