Mokokwe Applauds BFA On Women Referees

Referee Glenda Mokokwe has hailed Botswana Football Association (BFA) for promoting women to be soccer match officials.

The soccer referee said Botswana is doing relatively well in giving women a chance to be football match officials. She said Botswana's progress in promoting women referees was evident at the just-ended English FA international referees' course for instructors in England. Mokokwe attended the course with Silver Kelaletswe. She told Monitor Sport that of the 43 participants from 25 countries who took part in the course, only three were women - two from Botswana and one from Zimbabwe.

Mokokwe said she learnt a lot and hopes to work very closely with Women and Sports Botswana (WASBO) to run courses for those interested in officiating. She lamented that there is a general perception that women cannot make it in the male-dominated soccer officiating. She believes women referees are as capable as their male counterparts and they only need support. She implored women to be forceful to be recognised.
