Minister exposes BFA lies

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) misled the nation into believing that FIFA is about to suspend the country due to the controversial constituency tournaments, the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Shaw Kgathi has said.

Kgathi was addressing a media conference, attended by senior BFA officials in Gaborone yesterday. The BFA had warned that the country risk being banned by FIFA if it did not find a solution to the running of the constituency tournaments. The BFA argued that the tournaments operated parallel to its leagues and programmes.

But it all turned out to be hot air. Kgathi shocked journalists when he said in the presence of BFA officials Boyce Sebetela (vice-president administration), Dintle Mphele (vice president technical) and acting chief executive officer, Susan Monametsi that there was no threat of suspension from FIFA.
