Cellular phone service provider, Mascom is the new sponsor of the annual Kabelano Charity Cup, replacing rivals, Orange which has sponsored the event since its inception.

Kabelano Trust chairperson, Terence Dambe said in Gaborone on Tuesday that Mascom will be the primary sponsor with naming rights for the one-day soccer spectacle for the next three years commencing in 2010. The competition was previously known as Orange Kabelano Charity Cup. The organisers say petroleum company, BP has come in as the associate sponsor while Monitor newspaper is still the media sponsor.

"With the support of Mascom, we are sure that we will be able to take this event to even higher levels of entertainment for our beloved supporters who attend this event in large numbers," Dambe said. The next edition of the competition will be held on May 29, 2010 at the National Stadium. The organisers have not yet decided on the format to be used to select clubs that will participate and the breakdown of the prize money. Dambe explained that they have chosen to host the event earlier than usual to add to the excitement and hype created by the 2010 World Cup in South Africa next June.
