Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) president Moses Bantsi has said local women are doing relatively well in coaching and technical issues of the sport.

He asserted that a number of women have attended training at different levels as coaches and what is remaining is for them to become visible. "What we need from them is to be more visible and not be overcome by their male counterparts. They should play critical roles and be role models to girls so as to encourage them to participate in athletics," he said at the BAA Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday. He said there is need to increase women participation in the sport to adhere to the world athletics plan.

He is worried that though a good number of talented girls are doing well at junior schools, they disappear when they graduate to the senior level. He explained that in their continued effort to encourage women participation not only in athletics but sports in general, they intend to organise camps and help them to qualify for major events. "We will send them to various competitions to gain more exposure," he promised.
