Local athletes chase World Champs berths

More local athletes start their chase for World Championships berths following high jumper, Kabelo Kgosiemang's qualification last week.

The athletes get a chance when they take part in the next permit meeting in Potchefstroom, South Africa, early next week.Athletics Central North West will host the second permit meeting at the KK MacArthur Stadium in Potchefstroom.A few more local athletes will try out their luck at the event with the biggest catch this time around being qualification for the 14th World Championships in Athletics in Moscow, Russia.

Already, Kgosiemang has booked a place after his 2, 29 metre jump at last week's Yellow Pages Series event in Potchefstroom.Kgosiemang came first in the event with Olympic silver medallist Nigel Amos also winning the 400 metre event with a time of 46, 26 seconds. Pako Seribe was second behind Amos at 47, 11 seconds.Isaac Seoke won the 800m event after finishing the race in 1, 49, 20 minutes but will be hoping to improve and possibly run a qualifying time.Beukes Stephan also returns to the series buoyed by the new 72, 33 metres throw national record in javelin that he set last Wednesday.
