Kgatleng councillors have said they will help to improve the standards of football in the district so that clubs from the area can qualify for the First Division and the Premier League.

The civic leaders made the commitment after a presentation by the Kgatleng Regional Football Association (KRFA) at a full council meeting last week. The KRFA called on the councillors to help them run football. KRFA chairperson, Dintle Mphele asked the councillors to put more effort in encouraging clubs to overhaul their act. "We are faced with financial constraints and lack of resources to run football. Clubs do not have grounds and this makes it difficult for them to prepare for games," said Mphele. He added that if possible, the Kgatleng District Council could help clubs by grading their grounds.

He reported that some clubs failed to affiliate with the KFRA due to lack of money. Mphele said clubs need P5,000 to register with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) and P500 to affiliate with a regional body.
