Karate standards impress world champion

Under-16 world champion, Tanel Taabo of Estonia has said he is impressed with the level of competition in Botswana's Karate.

Speaking after winning kumite in the Botswana Hayashi-Ha Gaborone Open on Saturday at Boipuso Hall, he said that he has realised that young karatekas in the country are very disciplined because they train longer and listen to their instructors.

He said that Botswana karatekas are very good in Kata. The 16-year-old high school student is in his first visit to Africa and will be in the country till March 17. Botswana's Raefel Raid finished second to him in kumite. In the other elite categories, Khaya Groth of Botswana was the champion of boy's kata for the 14-15 years. Totanang Ponatshego of Botswana was second.
