Itekanele bankrolls karate tournament

Itekanele medical aid scheme has rolled out a five-year sponsorship for the annual Japan Karate Association (JKA) tournament.

The company will avail P30,000 this year to finance the tournament and the amount is meant to increase anually in subsequent editions. The sponsorship was launched in Gaborone on Tuesday. This year's edition of the event is billed for August 1 in Gaborone.

The tournament has been running for years without a sponsor. It will now be known as the 'Itekanele JKA championship'. When handing over the cheque to JKA, Itekanele head of marketing and public relations, Gaone Bantsi said it is their responsibility to give back to communities who contribute to the growth of their business. "Our main issue is to change people's lives and that is why we have partnered with a code that is regarded as low (sic) and hope to grow with them," Bantsi said.
