GU Gunned

Extension Gunners continued with their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 victory over defending champions, Gaborone United in a dull be MOBILE Premier League encounter in Lobatse on Saturday.

Goals either side of the half from Kelebale 'Sunday' Monametsi and Burundian forward, Aime Nzohambanayo were enough to condemn GU to their third defeat of the season. GU had opened the scoring through Wellington Maposa in the second minute. This was GU's third loss of the season, which leaves their title defence hanging by a thread. For Gunners, it was their seventh win of the season, which keeps them second, just two points behind leaders, Township Rollers who played BDF XI yesterday.

GU threatened to overrun their opponents early on but lost steam midway to surrender the three points. As early as the second minute, Maposa jerked the Reds faithful off their seats when he converted with a cheeky back-heel after a good run on the right by Tiroyamodimo 'TRX' Mohambi. In the third minute, Monageng Thaele's effort came off the woodwork with GU goalkeeper, Kgosietsile Senjoba beaten. In the 17th minute Senjoba almost gifted the home side an equaliser when he spilt a harmless looking cross but managed to gather on the second attempt. Captain, Kelebale brought his side level in the 25th minute after his initial shot had struck the upright. With Boitumelo 'Bashin' Modisaotsile struggling on the left, GU caretaker coach, Zaahid Jaalal withdrew him and threw in Joseph Phethego in the 34th minute. In the 38th minute Maano Ditshupo let fly from about 30metres and his shot narrowly went over the cross bar. In the first half injury time, Maposa should have done better but sent his effort high from about two metres out.
