FRANCISTOWN: Debswana Cup defending champions Diphatsa proved their mettle at the weekend when they became the only northern side to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition over the weekend.

The champions made it after convincingly winning two games and losing one at Area S courts. The other three semi-finalists are Mafolofolo, Kutlwano and favourites BDF VI.
Diphatsa outclassed Desert Kings and Mag Stimela by identical 3-0 results on Saturday before falling to Gaborone giants Kutlwano by the same margin on Sunday. Diphatsa coach Gabatlalefswe Masweu said he was impressed by the performance though he missed some key players like Tabaka Mothudi who is in South Africa. "We are now in a good position to take on rivals BDF VI in the semi-finals. It would be a final before the final," said Masweu.

He added that he used less experienced players in the top eight tournament but he is hopeful that he would have a full squad at the semi-finals this coming weekend at Otse Police College. Despite stern warnings by BDF VI, Masweu vowed to retain the title.
After winning all the weekend games in pool A, BDF VI are in a class of their own as they fight to regain the title. The soldiers hammered Mafolofolo 3-1 in an emotional match, before outwitting the less experienced northern sides, Spartans and Orapa by 3-0 scores. With the naturally gifted Lee Tshipana and Francis Dingwe on top of their game, BDF VI look unstoppable.
